bookmark_borderThe Environmental Impact of Cotton Rounds & Wipes

It may surprise you to know that cotton production requires a lot of natural resources, especially water. To make one kilogram of cotton, which is the same size as a T-shirt, it takes more than 20,000 liters of water. Non-organic cotton can also be grown with a lot of toxic pesticides that slowly pollute our environment.

Consider also the fact that many reusable cotton rounds comes in single-use plastic packaging that ends up in the landfills along with the round. No matter what you think, they are an eco-friendly product.

Disposable wipes can be even worse

Disposable wipes are usually made of a mixture of cotton, polyester, polypropylene, and cotton. Petroleum-derived ingredients come from a nonrenewable resource.

They cannot be biodegradable and end up in landfills. They can be flushed down the toilet by some people, but this is the worst thing that you can do.

They don't break down in sewer systems and can cause costly clogs. These clogs can be removed but they will eventually end up in landfills.

Health effects of cotton rounds and wipes

There are potential health risks associated with cotton production due to the use of so many pesticides. If you use it as a makeup remover, be sure to rub them all over your skin, around your eyes, and your mouth. This can lead to chemical exposure.

Disposable wipes are even worse

Disposable wipe manufacturers can add toxic chemicals and irritants to their products.

The most commonly used fragrance (read more about why we don't recommend fragrance-containing products), contains a lot of strange chemicals that can be both irritating and harmful. You shouldn't have harmful preservatives near your eyes or mouth.

It is easy to get rid of disposable cotton rounds or disposable wipes and replace them with reusable ones. This will allow you to reduce your waste and also make your makeup look a little more professional.
